It’s time to celebrate Halloween in Cape May. And, each year, Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities puts together a unique selection of spirited events that highlight the spookiest time of year. If you’re a fan of ghosts, ghouls, and all things a little creepy, it’s definitely time to visit Cape May. Let’s take a look at this year’s Halloween Happenings in Cape May, from October 11 through 31.
Cape Mayhem & Victorian Oddities Trolley Tour
Headless Photography? Electric Corsets? Coffin Torpedoes? These are just some of the strange beliefs, superstitions, oddities, fads, curiosities, and mysteries from you’ll learn about on this half-hour trolley tour through the gaslit streets of Cape May. Listen to stories from Cape May’s past that are bizarre, unexplained, or just downright weird! Adults $15; children (ages 3-12) $8
Phantoms of the Physick Estate: The Curse of H.H. Holmes
Meet at the Physick Estate for an immersive theatrical performance that includes scary images, strobe lights, and other effects. In the late 19th century, America’s first serial killer – H.H. Holmes – roamed the streets of Chicago. Now, two new artifacts belonging to this madman have turned up at the Physick Estate, but they bring with them terrible darkness. Are you brave enough to face it? Audience discretion is advised. Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. $20 adults; $12 children (ages 3-12) Fridays, October 18, 25 and November 1: 7:15pm, 8pm, 8:45pm. Saturdays, October 19, 26 and November 2: 6:30pm, 7:15pm, 8pm, 8:45pm.
Scarecrow Alley at the Physick Estate.
Every year the grounds of the Physick Estate are turned into a spooky Halloween showcase: Scarecrow Alley. Scarecrow Alley includes homemade scarecrows – from the ghoulishly gruesome to the foolishly funny! Best of all? You get to vote for your favorite! Visit the Carriage House Gallery at the Physick Estate to cast your vote.
Graveyard, Ghosts & Mansion Combination Tour
On this tour, take a trolley ride to Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery to spend time at the graves of Dr. Emlen Physick and his family. You’ll listen to electric voice phenomenon recordings captured by estate staff and accounts of paranormal activity at the estate, as reported by guests and tour-goers. Then, discuss these discoveries with those who know the house most intimately. The tour lasts about two hours and begins and ends at the Physick Estate. Tickets are $35 can be purchased online or in advance at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth or the Carriage House Visitors Center.
Ghost Walk with Craig McManus
Don’t believe in ghosts? Craig McManus will turn you into a believer on this one-hour walking tour. Listen as he talks about paranormal activity at a variety of properties along the way. This tour begins at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth. Friday, October 18: 6 pm. Saturday, October. 19: 6 pm, 9 pm.
Trick or Treat at the Physick Estate
Everyone loves trick or treating! At the Physick Estate you’ll find spooky ghouls and ghosts with lots of treats for everyone. Trick or Treating is free and takes place on October 31 from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Seance at the Physick Estate
On October 18, 25 brave souls will spend a late night in the haunted Physick Estate with medium Craig McManus. Craig will expand on his experience with paranormal activity at the estate and perhaps channel a spirit or two. Admission is $50.
