Invite your friends to attend.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to stay connected with friends and family. Cinco de Mayo is a great excuse to invite your friends and family to gather via zoom and celebrate the holiday. Online email invitation retailers like Paperless post sell many on-theme options.

Get creative.

Make your own Cinco de Mayo-themed decorations with items found around the house. All you need is a little construction paper, scissors, and glue to make fun, colorful, streamers that reflect the mood of the holiday. Feeling ambitious? Check out these directions on how to make your own pinata at home.

Cook up special Cinco de Mayo-inspired dishes.

Nothing says Cinco de Mayo like authentic Mexican food. A few popular options are:

Guacamole and tortilla chips

When it comes to making delicious guacamole, the key is to keep it simple. Guac is meant to be easy breezy. All you need is a few high-quality *fresh* ingredients that complement one another. Plus, homemade tortilla chips are super yummy and much healthier than store-bought crisps.

Carne asada tacos

This simple recipe features a delicious marinade, diced onions, cilantro, and fresh lime juices. Just marinate your skirt steak for an hour, grill, and fill your tacos. It’s that easy!

Pico de Gallo

It’s no secret Pico de Gallo is easy to make. It requires only six ingredients: ripe red tomatoes, white onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, and salt (and some decent knife skills). That’s it. Serve in a festive bowl with homemade tortilla chips (see recipe above).

Tres Leches Cake

Tres Leches Cake is the perfect light and airy dessert to make on Cinco de Mayo. This sponge cake recipe features (no surprise) three milks that make it sweet and delicious. *Pro-tip: be sure to beat your egg whites to stiff peaks and then fold them in gently to ensure a cake with lots of lift.

Dress the part.

Shake things up with festive dress. We’re all struggling to get out of sweatpants these days, so there’s never been a better time to search your closet for some fun Cinco de Mayo-ish clothes. Summer dresses, sombreros…maybe a poncho. All are perfect items to wear to your celebration.

Our Cape May oceanfront restaurant is open seasonally, May through October. We serve meals made with fresh, local, ingredients plus delicious cocktails like our signature Orange Crush. Join us for great food, friendly services, and picturesque views of the Atlantic Ocean.
