In just a few short weeks we’ll usher in the 2018 summer season. After a long, cold, winter we’re more than ready to get busy doing what we do best: welcoming our guests – as we would family – with delicious food and cocktails, beautiful ocean views and outstanding entertainment. It’s what Harry Hirsch, Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille’s namesake – and Montreal Beach Resort founder – loved to do most.
Here’s a little of his story:
Prior to opening the Montreal Beach Resort in 1966, Harry and his wife Sophie (who emigrated from Poland together in the 50s) started a chicken farm and delivery service in the small agricultural town of Corbin City, New Jersey. During this time, they provided provisions to local restaurants. Harry’s route often took him to the Jersey Shore and, at times, to Cape May. Harry feel in love with the small seaside community and when a beachfront property became available at the corner of Beach Drive and Madison Avenue, he and Sophie decided to enter the hotel business.
Harry worked hard to make his dream a reality. With the resort, Harry hoped to recreate the family-style atmosphere from his “old country” he loved so much. Today, Harry’s son Larry and his younger brother, Joseph, carry on his legacy. “We’ve been part of the Cape May community for 50 years, and we’re committed to maintaining our long-time tradition of treating customers like they are members of our family,” says Larry.
You can really sense that at Harry’s today. Not only does Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille boast great menus and incredible ocean views, it features a warm and friendly atmosphere that begs you to sit down, relax and take a load off.
In 2017, Harry’s was featured on Philadelphia Magazine’s list of best places to eat and drink of the Jersey Shore. Open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, Harry’s menus include old favorites like clam chowder, Cape May salad, and a signature lobster BLT.
